Summer is a great time to play and relax! Kids (and teachers) need a break. However, please encourage your child to read each day or read to them. It is extremely important for children to read over the summer. We suggest setting aside a few minutes of quiet time several times each week for reading. Research tells us that children who read over the summer break at an appropriate reading level will make about a four-month gain in their reading abilities. Children who don’t read will lose some ground over the break. We see it each year when we assess students for their Fall baseline data.
