In my spare time I enjoy gardening, mountain biking, a hot cup of tea and a good book, snowboarding, writing, traveling the world far and near & long walks with my husband, Mike, and our dogs, Dahlia and Lefty.
Be the change you wish to see in the world. ~Mahatma Ghandi
I began my teaching career in 2001 as a 3rd grade teacher in Brooklyn, New York in one of the the city's first "inclusion" classrooms. After moving to Colorado in 2004, I took the job of literacy specialist and interventionist at an amazing little school called Galeton Elementary in Eaton. Then I moved to Kinard Middle School where I was the Integrated Services teacher for 6th & 7th graders. I began at Zach in 2009 as the interventionist for four years, then filled the role of Gifted & Talented teacher for four years, and, in the spirit of fours, I am now teaching fourth grade. I am proud and excited to be starting my 9th year at Zach Elementary.
I strive to challenge my students by providing open ended learning opportunities; hands-on, project-based and independent learning; peer collaboration; time to deepen their understanding by verbalizing their thinking and reflecting in writing. I also try to address the "whole child" by making sure that my students' social and emotional needs are being met as well as their academic needs. I want math class to be a place where students feel valued, important, safe to be themselves and comfortable embracing a challenge.
