Why do you love being a teacher?:
I love opening the world of music to students. Music impacts us in so many ways everyday and I enjoy teaching students how to connect with something so vital to everyday life. I love singing, dancing, playing instruments and being silly with students. Teaching music is the best job ever!
What do you like to do outside of school?:
I enjoy spending time with my husband and two sons. We like to go camping, hang out in Old Town and travel the world. I enjoy reading; my favorite genres are mystery and historical fiction. And of course, I love to sing!
What is a favorite quote of yours?:
"The arts teach us that there is something that connects us all and is bigger than each of us."
~Yo Yo Ma
Courses Taught:
At Zach Elementary, every student in every grade level attends General Music Class once a week. In addition, students in 2nd through 5th grade may join our Zach Elementary Green or Gold Choir. Students in Kindergarten, First, Third and Fourth Grades will present a musical.
About My Classroom:
In the Music Room, students will sing, dance and play instruments. We will learn about composers and various types of music. Students will learn the fundamentals of music theory and practice writing music themselves. Our primary text is Quaver Music, along with lessons and resources based on the Core Knowledge Curriculum Sequence. We will laugh a lot...music is fun and makes us feel all sorts of emotions; we will explore different ways music makes us feel and why it makes us feel that way.
